It could have been me

Yasmeen is a typical 10-year-old girl looking forward to the weekend — until her father insists she join him at the masjid to meet newly arrived refugee families.
Reluctantly, she goes, expecting nothing in common with them. But then she
meets Sumoud, a Palestinian refugee girl her age, and despite their different lives, they quickly bond. As Yasmeen listens to Sumoud’s stories of life in a refugee camp in Gaza, she begins to see the world through new eyes. That night, a vivid dream places her in Sumoud’s shoes — in Gaza — blurring the lines between their lives.
Their growing friendship and Yasmeen’s haunting dream spark a deep reflection, inspiring her to make a difference. It Could Have Been Me is a story of empathy, resilience, and the power of friendship — rooted in identity and a shared homeland of Palestine. It reminds us how easily our lives could have been different if fate had chosen otherwise. It holds up a mirror: it could have been you.
